<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Hurricane Dorian is set to make landfall on the west coast of Florida tonight. It is predicted to slowly move its was up through the Carolinas over the next couple of day.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here&#8217;s what you will need to do to stay prepared. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Many parts of Florida have already been evacuated and if you are in that area and reading this please evacuate IMMEDIATELY.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For the rest of us, according to many government websites here is some important tips to follow to stay prepared!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">When Hurricane Dorian is 36 hours from reaching you</h2>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Keep TV and radio on for latest hurricane information</li><li>Resupply and stock you emergency kit. Make sure you have food and water for 3 days. Along with needed medication, flashlight, batteries, money (cash), and first aid gear.</li><li>Set up a means of communication with family if you lose power. Some examples include, call, text, email or use social media such as facebook twitter etc. During disaster, texting is most reliable.</li><li>Study your evacuation zone, route and shelter location. Plan with your family.</li><li>Make sure your car is running and in good shape and with a filled tank of gas. Place emergency supplies and extra clothing in your vehicle.</li><li>Check to see if you have NFIP flood insurance, your policy may allow up to a thousand dollars in loss avoidance measures, such as sandbags, water pumps, etc.</li></ul>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">When a hurricane is 18-36 hours from arriving</h2>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Bookmark your city&#8217;s website for updates and emergency instructions or news.</li><li>Bring lightweight objects such as patio furniture, garbage cans, lawn decorations inside so they don&#8217;t become projectiles in strong winds. Things such as propane tanks and more are unsafe to bring inside so anchor them down tightly outside. Trim and or remove trees that could fall on your home.</li><li>Cover all windows. You can board them up with 5/8” exterior grade or marine plywood.</li></ul>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">When a hurricane is 6-18 hours from arriving</h2>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Keep TV/radio on and check city website every half hour for updates.</li><li>Make sure your cell phones are fully charged!</li></ul>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">When a hurricane is 6 hours from arriving</h2>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>If you are not instructed to evacuate your location, stay home or let family know where you are.</li><li>Close your storm shutters and keep away from windows. </li><li>Turn the refrigerator to it&#8217;s coldest setting and open only if absolutely needed. When power dies, food can stay good for longer. Use thermometer to check your food.</li><li>Keep TV/radio on and check city website every half hour for updates.</li></ul>
